who are we? | if you would like to check out one of our microchurches this is what you will most likely see…real and flawed people who want to learn more about Jesus and are in all different stages of their journey. Each microchurch is organically grown! Some have worship music with guitar, some drums, some with no music. Some have lots of young children, some with a bigger mix. As you choose to attend, you create change and growth. We all work together to learn more about putting Jesus first, loving and serving others, and encouraging each other in our journeys. We want people to know the love, joy, peace, and hope that only Jesus can give! Come and check out one of our microchurches or let us know if you want to start one in your area. As long as making disciples and following Jesus is the focus, it can be done in any style!
what’s making disciples all about? | a disciple is a follower of Jesus. Jesus commands us to follow him and to show others how to follow him. But many people find it difficult and challenging to follow Jesus in our culture, let alone share who he is with others. Making disciples is a lost art, so we have developed principles of disciple making that we teach and model. We see ourselves as starting a disciple making movement that will transform lives and ultimately result in many churches being planted!
why the name sojourn? | a sojourn is a temporary stay and this life is temporary. No one stays the same forever. We are all on some sort of spiritual sojourn.
without walls | by this we mean that we are a church where people can come from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences and discover Jesus. Rather than putting up walls which keep people away from God, we seek to tear them down. Jesus himself is our example as he consistently reached out to the unchurched of his day. Come as you are; but, in the spirit of sojourning, don’t stay as you are!
Vision & Mission
our vision | to build a great community by advancing the truth of Jesus Christ which results in personal transformation, cultural renewal and social justice!
our mission | creating communities of renewal powered by the gospel of Jesus Christ
what we believe
the bible | we believe the bible, both old and new testaments, to be the inspired Word of God without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the divine and final authority for Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21, 3:16).
god | we believe in one God, the sovereign creator and sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in a triune community of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Isaiah 45:12, 23; Matthew 3:16-17; Romans 14:11).
jesus christ | we believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He became fully man without ceasing to be fully God having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that he might reveal God and redeem sinful man (John 1:1-2,14; Luke 1:35; Galatians 4:4-5; 2 Corinthians 5:19). He died on a cross as the sacrifice for our sins in order to accomplish our redemption from sin.
the holy spirit | we believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service (John 16:8-11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18).
man | we believe that man was created in the image of God; but, man sinned and is therefore, spiritually dead. Through his own power or efforts, man is utterly unable to remedy his spiritual condition (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23, 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12). Only through faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of one’s sins can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
salvation | we believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and, thus become children of God. Justification and salvation are by faith alone. All those who believe and confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are saved by their faith (John 1:12; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19).
the church | we believe that God saves people individually but, He has called them to live in a community which is His church. The true church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head. Only those who are members of the true church shall be eligible for membership in the local church. (Acts 2:41-47; Ephesians 1:22-23; Hebrews 10:25)
baptism | we believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to be observed by the Church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation (Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:41,42; Acts 18:8; I Corinthians 11:23-26).
the return of jesus christ | we believe our Lord Jesus’ physical return (Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, Hebrews 9:28) is imminent (Revelation 22:20) and will be personal, visible and world wide (Revelation 1:7). We know not the time of His coming (Matthew 24:44), therefore it is our duty to make preparation for and live in readiness of His coming.
